Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

‘We Do Not Inherit The Earth From Our Ancestors, We Borrow It From Our Children’

No, environment consciousness is not a new fangled modern fad, idea was to promote ecology, encourage respect for life on Earth, and highlight growing concerns about different kinds of pollution. Today, over a billion people from all over the globe celebrate Earth Day.

Environmental & Climate Literacy’ the theme of 2017 Earth Day, is particularly significant. There has to be awareness of how serious the problem is to urge an action. We’ve got to realize that just government agencies cannot make the difference – that each of us as individuals need to contribute by making those small changes. (Yes, opting for the bus instead of your car does make a difference!)

The moot point on which environment protection hinges is the need to reduce carbon footprints. At the individual level, you need to get involved & choose wisely. The need to act is imperative is universally agreed upon. If you need further proof, you need only to check the air pollution in the national capital before Diwali – yes before Diwali. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was shocking at 318! An AQI of 250 and more is considered to severely impact the health of fit people. The pollution levels were higher than in Beijing – known to be one of the the world’s most polluted capital city.

The choices we make in our day-to-day life—whether we ditch the car and opt for a bus to go on vacation; plant that tree; cut waste following the mantra of ‘reduce, recycle and reuse’—ultimately all go to impacting the environment and climate change.

While the bigger culprits—such as burning fuelwood/biomass or large scale vehicle emissions—are much talked about, note that the simple steps you take such as carpooling or using buses, drastically reduce CO2 emissions as well.

Finally, remember! It won’t do to do something on a whim, for a day or two. To really benefit Mother Earth, you need to make the change in your lifestyle a habit.

It’s good for the earth, good for your health, and good for your children’s grandchildren!
