Smart City is the brain child of India’s PM Hon’ble Mr. Narendera Modi. Smart Cities Mission is an urban renewal and retrofitting program by the Government of India with a mission to develop 109 cities all over the country making them citizen friendly and sustainable. Smart City has the power and magic to change the landscape of Indian cities in the way we live, work, commute and spend our time.

In keeping with the times, MobiKwik has just kick-started the first of its many initiatives in this domain by tying up as the payment partner with Bangalore One and Bhopal smart cities. The association with Bangalore One will enable almost 66 million citizens of Karnataka state to do multiple activities like booking railway tickets, applying for driver licenses and filing income-tax returns. MobiKwik will power payments in Bangalore Mobile One and provide citizens with simple and convenient mode of digital payments.

In another landmark agreement, MobiKwik also announced an association with Bhopal Plus, part of Bhopal Smart City initiative, a one-stop web portal and mobile application for facilitation of government-citizen engagement. This partnership will allow residents of Bhopal to pay taxes and bills for utility services like electricity and water digitally. This platform can also be used to apply for birth and death certificates, marriage registration and grievance redressal on civic amenities. All this can be done on the portal within seconds.

Smart Cities is a Rs 40,000 Crore opportunity for digital payments and MobiKwik aims to capture at least 20 percent of this market share by FY 2017-18. On the anvil is many more tie-ups under the government’s Smart Cities umbrella as MobiKwik aims to be the defacto “Payments” backbone powering the less-cash digital India dream of millions of Indians.
