Located around the Mount, Mhapsa is a little town (Alto). The ancient Goan agricultural society had a well-established Gaunkari or Common Farming System, in which communities formed organizations, worked on community land and shared earnings. As a result, Mhapsa has remained a significant market hub for many centuries.
Mhapsa is near one of the major tourism hubs in Goa. During the tourist season, Mhapsa's closeness to various beaches in north Goa makes it an ideal location (November to April). However, Mhapsa has a limited number of hotels and accommodations because it is mostly a commercial town (for residents) with a significant resident population.
